Blackmires in Queensbury had a class in the Methodist society and membership is known from 1790 to 1797. The class existed as far back as 1763 when it was a part of the sprawling Keighley Circuit. A class list survives from 1764 in the records of the Keighley Methodist Circuit (or 'Great Howarth Round') and has been transcribed here.

Blackmires later joined Bradford and according to the 1792 list the Blackmires class "belongs [to] Witchfield" along with another class at Norwood Green. It may have joined with Witchfield after the Chapel was built in 1785. George Emsley may have been the Class Leader, he appears at the top of the 1790 and 1792 lists, whilst Job Woodhead is listed first on the 1797 list. Blackmires gained its own Chapel in a field called 'Israel Close', belonging to Swamp Farm at Micklemoss, in 1819. The Chapel was officially known as 'West End' and has now closed.

The first table is extracted from the membership return compiled in 1764 and found in the records of Keighley Methodist Circuit, and held at Keighley Library reference GB 538. There is only one return for Blackmires in the book.

The second table here is extracted from entries in the books of the Methodist Society in Bradford Archives. The unlined and unnumbered pages carry the information of all the local societies in the Bradford area and sometimes beyond. The book gives the state of class membership for only three separate years. A grey cell means that person is listed as being amongst the membership for that particular year.
There are wide variations in the spelling of names in these books. We have standardised the names here but spelling variations are listed under the 'Notes' column. The listings were usually made in June. The earlier records give the most information about members while the latter years just give name and surname.
