Witchfield Pew Rents


The book runs from 1929 until 1948 and includes monthly entries for the amounts paid for the pew rent. We have transcribed the names and numbers of ‘sittings’ from the lists for 1929, 1930 and 1948. The numbers in the first column seem to be the numbers assigned to the pews within the Chapel, and so presumably the pews numbered 1 to 5 were free. The sittings would relate to the number of people sitting in each pew. Some of the people paid rents only for themselves and some paid rents for more than one person. Many of the pews were shared by people who were probably friends or relatives.
