Wyke Township Records:: Protestation Returns 1642

The Protestation Returns of 1641–1642 are lists of English males over the age of 18 who took an oath of allegiance "to live and die for the true Protestant religion, the liberties and rights of subjects and the privilege of Parliaments."

Very few Protestation Returns have survived from Yorkshire, but the following is the return for Wyke, which is dated 1642. It may be an accurate census of all the men aged over 18 in Wyke in 1642. The Bradford rolls were published in the Bradford Antiquary (New Series Part 47, 1982) by Kenneth Rook. The original roll containing the Wyke returns is held at the National Parliamentary Archives, reference HL/PO/JO/10/1/109/10.
